Prima Facie. Circa Theatre 21 July 2023🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

What a stunning night of theatre this was. A full house was transfixed on a single actor for close to two hours and you could have heard a pin drop, such was the expertise of the actor involved. Unlike a lot of people I know, I had not seen the Jodie Comer version of this show online, so the story was completely new to me. It’s not complex- a criminal lawyer who delighted in getting her clients off, at times at the expense of the victims of the crime, finds herself the victim and the tables turn. Mel Dodge plays many characters during the show and uses voice and physicality to portray each so you know exactly who is talking at a given moment. Expertly directed and acted, this is the best play I have seen in Wellington, not just this year, ever. Lighting was interesting with the use of shadows particularly effective. Actor was unmiked, a refreshing change and her projection was even and easily heard. The video wall was used sparingly, but effectively as the cracks begin to appear in our Lawyers life. Stunning.

Top class.
