Little Shop of Horrors PLT Niblick Hall 29 Jul 23 🌟🌟🌟🌟

What a thoroughly entertaining show that puts PLT back on the map as an amateur musical theatre producer. I’ve personally rehearsed many times in Niblick Hall but to see it transformed in such a way was a revelation and a tribute to the hard working team at PLT. All the tricks of a tiny home. The set created by Anna Lowe was nothing short of remarkable, but I’ve come to expect that from her over the years. It’s a well know show with iconic characters Seymour, Audrey and the dentist. Each of the three main characters shone, with Jodie Mahan stealing each scene she was in as the pain loving dentist. The three women playing Chiffon, Ronette and Crystal were also wonderful with great harmonies throughout. The reveal of Audrey II was clever, as was the use of shadow scenes creating an interesting platform, especially to display one grisly scene at the dentist. Izzie Kemp as Audrey II had such good vocals I almost immediately forgot it’s normally played by a baritone.

The plant at full size in the second half was so well made and looked just brilliant. It was nice to hear a live band as well who were balanced very well so as not to overpower the unmiced performers.

We were spoilt with great lighting too though some performers missed their spots or moved away from their mark and were not well lit. We all have a favourite moment in a show and for me that was Caitlin McDougall’s Somewhere that’s Green. Her diction was precise and you could understand every word. Was a lovely moment. So overall, this is a show that deserved a bigger audience but they just won’t fit into that small space!!

I truly hope they sell out the remainder of their season. It deserves to.
