We Will Rock You-Act Three Productions, Regent on Broadway Palmerston North 10 Aug 23 🌟🌟🌟🌟

First things first, this was well worth travelling a couple of hours to see. The set and production values were top drawer. Lighting was effective and impressive, sound was also very good, a couple of mic issues but minor overall. It’s always great to have a live band performing and I love it when they become part of the production. They were highlighted a few times with good effect. Most who have seen the show will recognise that the story is not particularly strong and not it’s selling point. It’s the music and it delivers in spades. It’s incredibly important that the main characters are strong. If Galileo is not a fab singer then you are in trouble. Thankfully Michael Doody delivers with very solid vocals. His acting though was quite manic, which jarred with me and I’m guessing that he was directed to perform in that manner. The way the character was portrayed made it hard to warm to him. Danica Manson as Scaramouche was excellent and gave an assured and polished performance. Bravo. Our Killer Queen delivered a solid performance as did her off-sider Khashoggi but I was hoping for a wee bit more from both. Big thumbs up to the choreographer Cara Hesselin. She had the entire cast in unison and it was apparent how much work had gone into this performance. Well done. Plenty of high points and very few lows makes this a winner for Palmerston North. If you are thinking of making the trip, Nike (just do it). You won’t regret it
